#18 Web-based Apps: They're not just for desktops

ZOHO applications
Wow it amazes me to find out that there are so many online applications other than the more common ones such MS applications. I have tried (not on this blog exercise) using google docs and spreadsheet from my gmail (google account). After exploring and playing around with most of these zoho online applications i found that they have very much the same functions as the MS and I quite enjoyed it. I created some docs and email them to myself and they seem to work. I also like the ease of switching from one application to another by just clicking on the "switch to" button on the top tool bar. ZOHO is definitely another convenient and easy way to share and exchange information, documents, notes etc, between more people.

#16 So what’s in a wiki?

Well, I have read about wiki and the library wikis listed in the Discovery Exercise and I can say I have a fair idea what it is. But at this stage I have not tried how to use it. Leave it for later when I have more time to learn it.

#15 On Library 2.0 & Web 2.0 ...

I have read all of the perspectives on Library 2.0(seriously I did, just so I can compare notes and get good opinions and ideas). I strongly agree with what Dr Wendy Schultz said (if you've read it you know what I meant because I am not going to elaborate it on my blog). I find them so exciting and inspiring. The way and the lightning speed the technology is going I think it's fair that we as library staff should be willing to learn and know as much as we possibly can about this library 2.0(remember they are already talking about Library 3.0 and 4.0). Library as service provider should be prepared to utilise a more advance technology and staff should be very knowledgeable and capable of applying all the tools available in order to provide a much better and efficient service to our patrons. I think Library 2.0 and beyond will be very beneficial for such library services as cataloguing, ILL, storage of magnitude datas and other online services such as email, chat, research, etc..I am always interested and get very excited about any new technology (i wish I don't have to grow any older because I hate to think I am leaving all these tech. behind when I leave this world, can I take them with me?).

# 12 Rollyo

Using Rollyo as search tool to search the web, it's okay but I don't think I will be using it much. I have added some favourite sites using "search roll". But I have problem linking it onto my blog, eventhough I followed the step by step instruction given (am I that thick!), have tried it a few times. Finally with the help from Mr West I managed to do that and on the right spot too (i.e on the right hand side bar where I wanted it to be) thanks, Christian. I'll make an impossible pie next time.

#14 Getting not-so-technical with Technorati

I have toured technorati (oh such a long read, almost fell asleep!!). I find it very interesting when I started using it as my search tool. The best thing I find is that I am able to filter my search by blog post, tags photos and authority. I also like the idea that I can visual my search on certain topic eg. Obama, jewellery making on video or photos which I then can play via You Tube. Interesting. I will certainly be using this technorati and alternate it with my other search tools such as google (so i have signed in - another username and password). And I will not hesitate to use it in the library and even introduce it to the patrons.

# 13 Del.icio.us

It took me awhile to understand what Delicious is. After setting up an account, it didn't take me long to add all my favourites. I think I will be using this delicious more now as I have managed to add the delicious button on the tool bar of my browser (on my home computer). So instead of using favourites I can just click on the del. button (on my browser toolbar) and it brings up all my favourites sites and I can even do a quick search by just clicking on the tag e.g if i click on the "news" under tag only news sites come up on the list. The best thing I found about delicious is you can sort and view your tags in any order you choose e.g. alphabetical, most recent, etc. Using PLCMCL2 account I can add to my delicious bookmark from what are already listed there. I can access my del. account on any computer by simply log in and log out once I've finished if I don't wish other users to see my bookmark. This is really cool. I like it.

#9 Finding Feeds

I have 15 delightful feeds, click on my bloglines link and you will see what an interesting sites I have got. I use google to search the websites, and click on the RSS link or the orange symbol on the top toolbar (some do not have the RSS links) and I found this method pretty easy to get the sites added to my bloglines.
